Turn ideas into actions with Notion’s AI-powered workspace.
In a partnership between BUCK and Notion, we where tasked with creating a global campaign to promote Notion’s AI capabilities. With this, we developed Notion’s official Brand Guidelines for future creatives to follow.
Think it. Make it. Notion.

My role as Lead Animator began from the early stages of the pitch up until delivery of over 150 assets for worldwide use. In the beginning stages, I brought some charming illustrations to life. These served as a north star, informing how we planned to define the motion guidelines for Notion’s brand moving forward.

Once we awarded, I worked closely with the other leads, design and copy team as we developed a script and countless storyboards for Notion’s campaign. In the end, we landed on 3 coworkers: Lori, Bisa and Omar, who, with the help of Notion, find their way from a once chaotic workflow to a seamless pipeline where all their needs are found in one place.
Lowkey, my favourite part of any project where there are multiple characters is to give them names. It’s not only fun, but it helps the team grow attachment to them and makes it much easier to delegate, organize and keep track of.

Wile still in the script and storyboarding phase (as well as mid resourcing for the animation team), I got a head start on animation by R&Ding character animation principles and halftone treatment, then looping in the fresh 2D team to continue refining this until we arrived at results that satisfied both BUCK and Notion’s Art Director.

Final halftone - Radial pattern & dependent on skin tone.

Early boil and halftone test.
Then it was full steam ahead with animation. Separating shots, characters and assets between the team to efficiently animate a 30s spot in a small time frame. This 30s spot would then have over one hundred cut downs, ratio adjustments, unique endcards, etc to be showcased around the world, including the iconic Shibuya Crossing in Tokyo, bustling Times Square in NYC, and the endless maze of Gangnam Station in Seoul.

Notes by Roman Muradov and myself.
Thus, working closely with the CD, AD, Producer, Notion’s AD and the design, animation and edit team was crucial to a successful spot and delivery. From time to time I got to play a hands on role by directly animating elements in certain shots to help the campaign get over the finish line.

BRAND GUIDELINES ✐ᝰ
From pitch to post delivery, I played a pivotal and direct role in informing Notion’s Brand Guidelines, particularly their motion principles. Typography, illustration expression, frame rate, boil behavior, and how all these should and should not interact with one another are included as part of these rules.
